Cornflower ‘Blue Ball’

These hardy annuals are traditionally blue in colour but are also available in a wide variety of colours, including white, pink, red and “black” (actually a very dark red). Cornflowers look beautiful in any flower border, particularly when planted in drifts, and provide a rich source of nectar for bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. Cornflowers are easy to grow and provide flowers throughout summer, giving vibrant colour in the garden, as cut flowers, and on the plate.  The petals have a mild clove-like flavour and are great for making natural food colouring for icing cakes, for floral teas, decorating cheeses, cakes and rice dishes.  An easy to grow and popular edible flower.
